Hey there, it’s Khoi from Hum Travel, and I’ve got an adventure to share with you! As one of the cofounders and the producer of the Best Ever Food Review Show’s 16-day expedition through Vietnam’s North-Western Provinces, I found myself in a whirlwind of excitement and connection.
My main aim was to uncover the untold stories of the minor ethnic groups nestled in the remote mountainous regions and capture their unique way of life. It was quite the challenge, as most of the information could only be unearthed through personal connections. Imagine being warmly welcomed into everyone’s homes to showcase their daily lives—it was truly a heartwarming experience.
With just three months to plan amidst the ever-evolving Covid landscape, our team set out to explore the hidden treasures of Yen Bai, Son La, Lai Chau, and Lao Cai. Over those 16 days, we crafted nine captivating episodes that resonated with nearly 50 million viewers worldwide, sharing the culinary and cultural wonders of these regions.
Here’s a glimpse of how we made it all happen:
Delving Deep with In-Depth Research and Creative Flair
Our journey led us to the vibrant world of the White Thai Ethnic groups, where we discovered the largest insect market in Son La. Persuading the renowned bug queen livestreamer to join us added an authentic local touch to our storytelling.
Navigating Challenges with Efficiency
Despite the hurdles posed by Covid, we managed to remotely coordinate our exploration in Lai Chau, capturing two episodes through meticulous distance facilitation.
Seamless Operations with Expertise
From securing permits for drone footage to shooting in bustling markets of Lao Cai, we ensured smooth operations and breathtaking aerial views for our audience.
Tapping into Talent and Connections
Leveraging our network, we held auditions for co-hosts fluent in English and embodying vibrant on-screen personas across all filming locations.
Creating a Harmonious Environment
From translation services to logistical support, our team worked tirelessly to ensure a seamless production process, allowing us to focus on crafting engaging content.
Budget managing
From managing a troublesome US-army jeep to keeping costs in check with a traveling mechanic, we ensured a budget-friendly yet reliable mode of transportation. Our arranged 16-seater van transport, top-notch accommodations, and delicious catering offerings provided a welcoming backdrop for our crew and talents, fostering creativity and comfort throughout the journey.
Our expedition through Vietnam’s North-Western provinces isn’t just a show—it’s a testament to the magic of immersive storytelling, cultural exploration, and culinary delights. Through our lens, we’ve shared the beauty and diversity of this enchanting region with a global audience, leaving a lasting impact on both our team and viewers. If you have any plans to shoot in Vietnam, I would love to hear about it and be a great contributor to your next adventure!
